‘To Go or Not To Go
(to Conference)….That is the question!’
We have
had much celebration recently over the anniversaries of both Shakespeare’s
birth and death (reputedly on the same date) that I felt, as some-one working
in a library, I ought to pay a little homage to the Bard. My
homage was slightly tongue-in-cheek (apologies to all Shakespeare fans out
there).
There
is not much time left to book your place for Interlend 2016 and a little bird
has told me that if you do it by the end of this week you should still receive the
early bird rate. The FIL conference is a great place to meet colleagues who share
the same role and the same daily issues. It’s a chance to find out what is
going on in the world of ILL and to find new and sometimes more creative ways
of working. Find out more from the FIL website:
http://www.forumforinterlending.org.uk/
We also
hold the AGM on the second day of conference where we on the committee give a roundup
of the year, say goodbye to any outgoing committee members and hopefully welcome
some new committee members ready to tackle next year’s FIL events.
So… the other
point of my ramblings today is to ask all those who have an interest in the
works of FIL, whether you are coming to the conference or not, to seriously
consider (I know – a split infinitive!) joining the committee. I know that we
will definitely be needing committee members this coming year who will ultimately
lead the committee
through
the years that follow. The committee needs people who are interested in the
work of FIL and who would be willing to take on specific roles from time to
time. We would really appreciate anyone coming forward who has a particular
skill in accounts who would be willing to consider taking over as treasurer in
due course.
There are
other specific roles on the committee which may appeal so there’s lots of scope
for you to showcase your talents. You don’t have to be attending conference to
put yourself forward for a place on the committee, just let me know in advance
that you would like to be considered. If anyone would like any further
information or just a chat about what goes on please do contact me sandrad@essex.ac.uk or contact the
committee generally on fil.committee@gmail.com
.
Look
forward to seeing you or hearing from you!
