One for All and All for ILL!
Here in an academic library the start of term is usually
very busy, particularly at the start of the new academic year with lots of new
students and staff who need assistance in finding where things are and how they
work.
But, is also a good
time to show-case all the services that the library has to offer, including an
interlibrary loan service. We know that they probably won’t need us for the
first few weeks but hopefully, as the term progresses and they get into the
swing of research and essays, they will realise that the ILL team can prove a
real asset to them, finding obscure publications or simply getting them the
article from a journal to which we don’t subscribe, without having to pay for
it themselves.
This year we have opened up our ILL provision to all
categories of users, having previously limited the use of the service to the
Post Graduates and Staff of the University and we hope that our undergraduates
will now be able to take their research further as ILL can offer them wider
scope for their studies.
My team and I are ready for the new academic year, having
put into place some of the ‘leaning’ techniques which I learned about at the
conference this year, so any increase in demand should be taken care of! Watch
this space!
