Aide Memoires

Aide Memoires

Remember, remember the fifth of November,
Gunpowder treason and plot.
We see no reason
Why gunpowder treason
Should ever be forgot!

We all remember the first verse of the Rhyme, intended as an aid for children to learn about a moment in History, but I was quite surprised by the rest of the rhyme, which I had never known…

Guy Fawkes, guy, t'was his intent
To blow up king and parliament.
Three score barrels were laid below
To prove old England's overthrow.

By god's mercy he was catch'd
With a darkened lantern and burning match.
So, holler boys, holler boys, Let the bells ring.
Holler boys, holler boys, God save the king.

And what shall we do with him?
Burn him!

Quite gruesome really!

But it did get me to thinking about using various Aide Memoires that we could use in ILL, or in my case just make some up for fun. Here is my attempt at a mnemonic app for Copyright:

C         Copy
O         Only
P          Papers
Y          Your
R         Readers
I           Intend
G         Giving
H         Highbrow
T          Thought

A          Academic
P          Purpose
P          Private
S          Study

Not Brilliant but it is somewhere to start! If anyone else can think of something that could act as an aide memoire, I’d really like to hear from you.
